Curriculum Overview
Learning and Developing Together

Religion:
Faith and Life Series - Our Life with Jesus Bible stories; The Church; prayer; Sacramental Study; activity pages; quizzes; tests; art projects; Mass and Confession.
Spelling:
Reading has weekly word lists, including bonus words from Science and Social Studies to challenge students. Writing words 3 times in cursive: spelling and vocabulary units from the workbook. Practice book spelling pages with writing assignments.
Reading:
Oral/Silent class stories; vocabulary development; reading strategies to improve comprehension; practice book pages; story tests and unit tests.
Music:
Weekly classes with Mrs. Z. for 30 minutes. Classroom practice for the Christmas and Spring musical programs.
Computers:
Thursday from 9-9:50 a.m. with Mrs. Sheehan in the Computer Lab.
Gym:
Tuesday and Friday 9:30-10:15
English:
Writing; Grammar instruction, including parts of speech and usage.
Math:
Place value; addition and subtraction; time; problem solving; graphing; measurement; geometry; fractions; multiplication; and division. Quizzes, Chapter Check-ups, and Tests.
Social Studies:
Communities, past and present; local and national government; rural and urban communities.
Science:
Plants; keeping healthy and the digestive system; rocks and minerals, and more...
Art:
The 3rd and 4th grades have art together using many mediums and techniques by famous artists like Georgia O'Keefe, Andy Warhol. We also will be doing seasonal art projects and crafts.
Homework:
Homework is listed on the board each day. It is collected the following morning. If an assignment is not completed, a late homework slip is sent home to be signed and the homework is to b turned in the following day. If it is not, the student will miss recess until the assignment and late slip are turned in. If you are going out of town, work is expected to be made up upon the student's return.
Effort Honor Roll:
"The Effort Honor Roll" is earned through timely homework completion; completing monthly reading calendar; doing all book reports or any projects that are to be completed at home; following the classroom rules and displaying appropriate classroom behavior.
Some Suggestions to help your child:
1. Read Read Read everyday! This will help build fluency which helps with comprehension.
2. Have a regular time to complete homework and a quiet area for your child to work.
3. Check that homework is completed each night, have them put it in their home folder, and placed in their backpack to be returned to school.
4. Study Math facts as often as possible.
5. Have your child eat a healthy breakfast each morning.
