Seventh Grade
Curriculum Overview

Religion:
Discover the history of our faith and creation of the church. Make the commitment to becoming an active member of the Catholic Church through the Sacrament of Confirmation, community service, and outreach programs. Attend weekly classes with our deacon.
Retreat:
As part of the preparation to receive the sacrament of Confirmation, all seventh grade students will attend a one day retreat. We will talk about Confirmation and ways to make the Gifts of the Holy Spirit an active part of our lives.
Confirmation:
Students will be studying throughout the year in prepartion for this important step in their journey of faith. Students are required to take and pass a test based on the teachings of the Catholic faith. Some of the many topics covered are Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, the Seven Deadly Sins, the Theological Virtues, partial and plenary indulgences and an indepth study of the Seven Sacraments. Students are also required to research a saint of their choice and write a paper about his or her life. They are to reflect on how that saint can be a life influence. In addition, a minimum of 30 hours of community service is required.
Computer/Technology:
Become proficient in Microsoft Office by learning skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Learn to make a creative and impressive presentation.
Mathematics:
Learn a solid foundation for algebra, geometry, and data analysis. Participate in hands-on investigation, cooperative learning, and research activities. Make connections to real-life situations, explore and discover practical uses of concepts in today's world. Develop skills in solving equations, using variables and graphing with and without a calculator. Master the goals and objectives stated by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
American History 1500-1860:
Travel back in time and experience the events that shaped our country. Discover the events that brought the settlers to this country and the difficulties they encountered. Understand the establishment of the 13 colonies and the road to the revolution.
Science:
Discover the basics of force and motion. Learn how objects act upon each other and what forces are at work in our daily life. Explore different forms of energy and simple machines. Learn about the systems of the body.
Reading:
Students have the opportunity to read a variety of literature with the help of our Heath Literature series. Provided with four unique textbooks, each with its own theme, students will quickly improve their reading ability. Additionally, students will work with age appropriate novels.
Language Arts/Vocabulary:
Students will sharpen their skills by studying the elements of grammar. Students will also have an opportunity to tap into their creative and intellectual side by writing short stories and research papers. Through the use of the Sadlier-Oxford Vocabulary Workshop series, the students will quickly improve and expand their own vocabulary.
