Catholics at the Capitol Rally 3/4/2009 - In
an effort to raise greater awareness of the needs of Catholic schools
to the state legislature, 44 SJVS students and adults attended
a rally hosted by the Catholic Conference of Illinois in Springfield on Wednesday, March 4th. The group from
SJVS, comprised mainly of honor roll students, were joined by
neighboring school students as they met with over 2,500 other supporters to stress the need for representation of all Catholic
schools in Illinois. Cardinal George, along with bishops of the other
five dioceses in Illinois, met with state representatives to discuss
policy issues that touch on Catholic teaching. The main legislative initiatives brought before the 2009 spring session of the Illinois General Assembly dealt with: doubling the education expense tax credit to parents of children in Catholic schools, increasing funding for the grants that would support health and safety mandates and to provide more financial assistance towards the Transportation Reimbursement Program.

parent's group (PEACE).

and BINGO on Friday. One grandmother even flew in from Ohio to
celebrate with the students! Many thanks to all who helped make this
